PFP were awarded the Suspended Ceiling sub-contract at this new £800m “Super-hospital” at the end of 2012, built by Main Contractor Brookfield Multiplex. The new campus replaces four former glasgow hospitals and was delivered under budget and ahead on schedule in 2015.
This project is the largest ceiling project to date featuring ceiling manufacturer Armstrong World Industries ceiling products, with whom PFP worked closely for the 2.5 year duration of the project. It is also the largest design and construction project in Scotland to date. With a value of over £4m the ceiling package included tile and grid suspended ceilings as well as drywall grid plasterboard ceilings and margins in both the new Adult and Children’s hospitals.
Over 140,000m2 of ceilings were installed on site and the project fully tested the company’s organisation and management skills as it involved small teams of operatives undertaking installations in the low levels of the main hospital as well as over the 11 floors of the tower building. The installation also meant a close working relationship was necessary with PFP’s material supplier to ensure material scheduling requirements could be met on a daily basis. The efficient physical distribution of materials to the workface in the 166,000m2 building footprint further proved the capabilities of PFP’s management team.
